interesting stuff
alas, i have started work. all is dull and boring. i would say there is never an exciting event that happens in the office. before work i dread it, when i'm working i look forward to my after work activities. i guess i'm the type who needs to work in a company that does not have time restrictions. i'll be a happier man if you dump ridiculous targets at me but allow me to sleep till at least 11am everyday.
judging by the amount of disagreements with waking up early to work, it's only normal that i slack a lot on work. (that's only when there's really no work to do!) okok. on to the main purpose of this entry.
i was listening to the radio at work this morning. and i heard this story about a marriage professor.
*********
he was apparantly conducting a lecture on how to maintain a good marriage to many "married students" who attended the lecture. you know the kind of board they use in Pictionary? he was using that.
He flipped the first page. And he explained, "To maintain a good marriage, you must fulfil these 2 conditions. One is to find a good partner, and the other is to be a good partner."
Many of his students jeered at this and said that it would never be possible.
On hearing the jeers, the professor flipped to the second page. And he explained, "If you cannot fulfil those 2 requirements, you must fulfil the following 4 requirements to have a good marriage."
He read out the 4 requirements and there were jeers again. So he flipped the page and said, "If you cannot fulfil those 4 requirements, you must fulfil the following 16 requirements to have a good marriage."
The crowd starting jeering again.
He flipped the page and said, "If you cant fulfil those 16 requirements, you must make sure you fulfil these 200 requirements."
*********
i guess this story really tells us not just about marriage but about any kind of relationship one is in. there are simple things you can do to make someone elses' day easily. It is sad to see that many of us are going more for quantity than quality nowadays. We'd rather say many things to try to make somebody happy, but we can never bring ourselves to say something else that would be so simple but have a powerful effect on the other person. something to think about! hmmm.....
